Earlier on 17th July 2021, a Special Leave Petition was moved before the Hon’ble Supreme Court challenging Calcutta High Court’s Order dated 09.07.2021 in which a plea seeking a probe by CBI was dismissed by the Court in a fake Covid-19 vaccination camp case.
The instant case was related to a fake Covid-19 vaccination camp being held in Kolkata by the accused Debanjan Deb who had been falsely proclaiming herself as an IAS officer associated with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The Division Bench of the High Court comprising of Justice IP Mukherjee and Justice Aniruddha Roy had earlier insisted that a probe by CBI was not necessary in the matter as the State Investigation Authorities were well equipped to handle the case. Accordingly, the Hon’ble Court dismissed the petition seeking CBI Probe in the issue.
The petitioner contended that the High Court had failed to notice that an impartial investigation was not possible given the situation involving many political leaders belonging to the ruling Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) including the Chief Minister.
It was further contended by the petitioner that the State Police authorities have to face unbearable pressure and would be unable to conduct a fair investigation in the instant case because of the involvement of powerful hands in the case.
