On Friday, the Supreme Court had issued a notice in the plea for bail that was filed by the co-founder of INX Media and socialite Indrani Mukerjea, who happens to be the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. Upon hearing Senior Advocate, Mr Mukul Rohatgi who was appearing for Ms Mukerjea, a Bench comprised of Justices P.S Narasimha and L. Nageswara Rao, it was agreed to entertain her bail plea.
Mr Rohatgi had apprised the Bench that Indrani Mukerjea had been in jail for the past six and a half years. Taking into consideration the current state of affairs, he also argued that the trial, will mostly not come to an end easily even in the next 10 years.
He also submitted that the trial court had been vacant without a presiding officer almost since June 2021. In addition to this, for the past 1.5 years, there were no witnesses that were examined. It was told to the Bench that Ms Mukherji’s husband, who also happens to be accused, has already been granted bail. He also informed the Bench that she was suffering from a condition called cerebral ischemia.
